Send an inlay when the defect is contained within the cusps. Send an onlay when a cusp is weak or undermined and you want to cap it while keeping the rest of the sound tooth. Go to a full crown only when there is too little sound structure left to bond to. Your master makes the same call on the design side, so the two of you agree on the most conservative option that will actually last.
e.max lithium disilicate (pressed or milled), hybrid ceramic, and monolithic zirconia. All of them are designed for adhesive bonding. For the etch-and-bond protocol, e.max and hybrid ceramic take a hydrofluoric etch plus silane; zirconia is prepared for its own bonding protocol. You deliver under a rubber dam, treat the intaglio, and cement with resin.
